The Metacomet Post
1926, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Simsbury, CT
Presents Certificate
of Appreciation to Simsbury Emergency Services Dispatchers
Earlier
this month the Metacomet Post 1926, VFW, Simsbury, CT presented members of the
Simsbury Emergency Dispatch staff with a national VFW certificate which stated,
"In grateful recognition of unyielding adherence to the highest ideals of law
enforcement in maintaining, providing and protecting the lawful rights of all
citizens.” It was signed by John Romano,
Simsbury VFW Post Commander and John Lamb, Post Quartermaster.
The presentation honors the seven dispatchers who are on
call 24/7/365 to assist with medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, traffic
stops, animal issues and other needs of its citizens. Dispatchers are often referred to as the
voice in the dark. They may be the first
contact made but are not the hands on, visual contact. They believe it takes
all parts to help serve the communities in which they work. The Simsbury dispatchers have had
approximately 13,700 calls for service. Their talent ranges from seasoned dispatchers with 22 years of
experience through their most recent joining just ten months ago. They are trained and certified to dispatch
police, medical and fire emergencies. The public is also able to participate in a Citizens Police Academy, run
by the Community Resource Officer, which provides an opportunity for citizens
to learn more about how the department operates and have a chance for some
hands on activities.
